The Planning Process
The Government has limited the role of public enquiries for the planned expansion of Nuclear Power in Britain
The Government has greatly restricted the rights of objectors to new nuclear power plants by severely limiting the framework for consultation.
Protesters are NOT allowed to present evidence on the safety of nuclear power.
Protesters are NOT allowed to present evidence on the economics of nuclear power.
Protestors are NOT allowed to present evidence on the need for nuclear power.
The government will only allow discussion on issues such as access, visual impact on the environment etc, as part of public enquiries into nuclear expansion.
They will not allow discussion on the issues that will have an effect on the planet for hundreds and thousands of years.
Thousands of individuals and groups have protested at this.
The Government is not listening.
"To diminish in any way the ability of the people to contribute fully to a decision, on each and every occasion a site is proposed for new nuclear build, is a profound negation of both democracy and of Government." (quote from the BERR (Department for Business, Employment and Regulatory Reform) website.
